Matthew Crays studied Psychology and Theatre, graduating in 2013 from Gannon University. As a student, he was actively involved in various clubs and organizations, including Theatre, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and Alpha Psi Omega social fraternity. He was also a scholarship recipient. Among his cherished memories from his college years, Father Shawn Clerkin’s Theatre Criticism Class stands out as his favorite. He also fondly recalls the excitement and camaraderie of Homecoming. and Family Weekend!
Currently, Matthew's professional life is centered around his passion for music and storytelling. He writes, performs, and records songs that reflect his personal experiences, particularly focusing on his journey through recovery from addiction and mental health struggles. His work extends beyond music; he speaks and performs at rehabs and 12-step meetings across the region, offering hope and inspiration to others on similar paths. His song "Without the Bottle" received first place in a regional competition, a testament to his talent and the impact of his music.
In addition to his musical career, Matthew is dedicated to physical fitness. He trains for and runs ultramarathons and is an avid cyclist. Looking ahead, he envisions himself touring the country, sharing his music with a broader audience while maintaining his home base in the Northeast, alongside his fiancée Abby.
Matthew credits his academic programs with providing him with the skills, knowledge, and wisdom he applies in his daily life. Matthew continues to build on the foundation laid during his educational journey, using his talents and experiences to make a positive impact in the world.
