Eric LaPrice '94, '99M

BS in Biology

Eric LaPrice, a proud alumnus with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from 1994 and a Master’s degree from 1999, has built a remarkable career with the National Park Service. Currently, he serves as the Deputy Superintendent for the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River.

During his time at university, Eric was actively involved in the BBB club, which complemented his academic pursuits in Biology. While he did not receive a scholarship, the experiences and education he received were invaluable. He fondly remembers Dr. Ropski's classes, which left a lasting impact on his academic journey. Eric also cherishes the tradition of visiting Antlers and The Shaggy Dog, which added a touch of camaraderie and fun to his college years.

In his current role, Eric collaborates with the superintendent to establish strategic directions and prioritize initiatives for the parks. He supervises Division Chiefs and holds line authority for decision-making and the authorization of federal fund expenditures. His leadership and dedication to preserving natural resources have earned him multiple professional awards and honors throughout his career.

Beyond his professional life, Eric has a passion for photography, capturing the beauty of the natural world he is committed to protecting. He has been happily married since 2016 and envisions himself advancing to the role of a park superintendent in the next five years.

Eric attributes much of his success to the strong foundation he built during his university years, where he gained not only knowledge but also lifelong memories and friendships. His journey is a testament to the impact of a solid educational background combined with dedication and passion for one's field.
